The Course Builder enables teachers like you to build up an online course
for your students quickly, easily and efficiently. Your course can include
YouTube video, worksheets, weblinks and exercises or units from NAS online
programs. To see some examples, click here.
Who is it for?
The Course Builder is for any teacher who would like to add an online
component to their teaching, create a blended learning program, or a course
which is delivered completely online.
Why choose the Course Builder?
Many institutions use Virtual Learning Environments such as Blackboard or
Moodle, but for all the advantages they offer, these systems can be complex and
difficult to use, especially for English teachers who may have no technical
background. NAS has published the Course Builder as a simple and intuitive tool
for building up online units of study.
How does it work?
There are two stages. You create units by adding your learning resources. Then you decide how often the units are going to be delivered, for example daily or weekly. The system sends students a URL and on the start date they can begin using your course.
What resources can I include?
You can include:
YouTube videos. You simply link to these and they are played within the student interface.
PDFs. Once you have turned your paper-based activities into PDFs, you can link to these, and students can download them and print them out.
Graphics. Simply upload JPG files.
Weblinks. You can link to other websites to provide reading practice or research resources relevant to the objectives of your unit.
Audio files. You could, for example, use our Recorder to record instructions, or a short talk for students to listen to before they tackle the other activities.
Individual exercises or whole units from NAS online programs such as Tense Buster, Road to IELTS, Clear Pronunciation or Business Writing.
Is there any help?
The primary design objective of the Course Builder
is to make it as easy and intuitive to use as possible – so you shouldn’t need
any additional help. However, there is also an instruction manual and we are
developing animated instructional videos.
